Double bill of the year? You bet. This is a match made in honky-tonk
heaven, for sure. Forget the Sex Pistols and Kiss, the most satisfying
and welcome reunion of the last couple years has got to be that of
Jason and the Scorchers. Seemingly destined for the footnotes of the
rock history books, the influential band that virtually invented "cow-punk"
has bounded back into action with two fine albums for Carrboro's Mammoth
Records, "A Blazing Grace" and the soon-to-be-released "Clear
Impetuous Morning". The group's shows, of course, are legendary.
Raleigh's Backsliders work a similar style, but with less of an emphasis
on punk. Yet the end result (Dwight Yoakam fronting the Stones?) is
equally intoxicating. Run, don't walk. Tonight at Tremont Music Hall.
