(A&M) Fans of Jason and the Scorchers will be pleased to know that a three-year layoff has not diminished the band’s fervency a whit. “Thunder and Fire” rocks with the urgency that has always been the Scorchers’ hallmark. Guitarist Warner Hodges, now augmented by second-guitarist Andy York, works his usual magic, while Jason’s twangy vocals blend earnestness and force on tracks like “Now That You’re Mine” and “Bible and a Gun,” a tune Jason co-wrote with Steve Earle. Long known as a tumultuous live band, the Scorchers will hopefully find the broader audience they deserve with “Thunder and Fire.”
