Formerly
of Jason & the Scorchers, the Illinois-born farm boy leader of that
group here offers an album that will be surprisingly country to people
unfamiliar with his musical roots. Producer Jerry Crutchfield, who also
works with Tanya Tucker, has come up with a clean sound that is noticeably
minus the customary clutter of rock while retaining much of that forms
instrumental excitement.
Although this comes from the alternative side of the country spectrum,
there seem to be commercial possibilities in such cuts as Try
Me, The Devils Daughter and the particularly
affecting reprise of I Washed My Hands in Muddy Water.
