Nashville’s Jason & the Scorchers practically invented cowpunk more than a decade ago. “Clear Impetuous Morning” sounds as if they cooked it up yesterday.
Fusing country feeling with punk thrash and code-red chops, Jason Ringenberg and company rip and wail through a mostly original set showing that the distance between Nashville and New York City’s CBGBs is shorter than it appears. Fresh, raw and vital, “Clear Impetuous Morning” not only rivals the Scorchers’ best work, the album eclipses the more downbeat efforts of latter-day acolytes. (At Mama Kin tomorrow.)
