Reformed cowpunks the Scorchers show little sign of middle-aged spread on the follow-up to their comeback record, 1995’s A Blazing Grace. Jason Ringenberg’s voice may have lost some of its edge, but the band’s enduring perkiness - all thrashabilly guitar and walloping drums - borders on the remarkable.
Special guest Emmylou Harris tugs on their leash for a restrained “Everything Has a Cost”, but a speed-addled romp through Gram Parsons’ “Drugstore Truck Drivin’ Man” is more indicative of what’s on offer here.
