Scorchers News - March 2002

Positive Press

There were several good articles about the Scorchers printed in major
publications since last November. Atlanta’s weekly city paper, Creative Loafing,
gave a very complimentary overview of the band before their December show.
Unfortunately, the printed edition goofed and didn’t print the second page of the
article.

The (Nashville) Tennessean served up a similarly nice piece a few days before
the band’s NYE show.

Tennessean writer Peter Cooper, after previewing the show in the above article,
then wrote this brief review. We have reprinted it here because it is not
archived on their site.

"Fist-pumping crowd has Scorching night"
From Tennessean music writer Peter Cooper:
While Kenny Chesney and a crew of country hitmakers held court at the Gaylord
Entertainment Center on Monday night, country-punk originators Jason and the
Scorchers played a tremendous New Year's Eve show at the Exit/In. The club was
packed to the gills, the band was/is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and the
whole thing was just extraordinary.

A couple of hours into the new year, lead singer Jason Ringenberg climbed atop
the Exit/In's long, thin bar, dancing and singing into the microphone while the
rest of the band stayed onstage and churned out the mightiest power twang in
the land. In the crowd, 45 year old men were hopping up and down and pumping
their fists right next to college kids who were....well, who were hopping up and
down and pumping their fists.
It was one of the most memorable Scorchers shows in a decade, which means it
was amongst the most memorable rock n' roll shows in a decade: one of those
rare times when the enormity of a musical moment is immediately apparent to
everyone present.
Certainly the biggest surprise of the past month for Scorchers fans was an
excellent, 900-word article on CNN.com.

Peter Cooper, whom Scorchers fans should knight, then reviewed “Wildfires and
Misfires”:
